Artificial intelligence and the future of work

The IMF's "AI and the Future of Work" paper provides an in-depth assessment of how artificial intelligence is reshaping the employment landscape, highlighting the duality of its impact.

On the one hand, AI presents opportunities to boost productivity and economic growth, potentially raising living standards. On the other hand, it poses significant challenges in terms of labor displacement and rising inequality.

The report suggests that successful adaptation to this new era will require policies focused on education, training and labor market restructuring, as well as social protection systems that mitigate the adverse effects on displaced workers.

The key will be to balance the benefits of AI with measures to support those affected by the transition.
