Beginning of the training course : 10 February 2023
The Tourism and Society Think Tank offers all TSTT members, institutions and training companies the possibility to access a training course in collaboration with the Halal Trade & Marketing Center.
The Halal Trade & Marketing Center is a global business development centre focused on the opportunities of the Halal economy for the industry worldwide, and proposes the development of a Halal/Muslim-Friendly tourism course to better understand this fast growing market and its regulation, identify and find the main opportunities, as well as adapt their businesses to take advantage of these business opportunities.
Halal/Muslim-Friendly tourism is growing steadily.
In 2021, Muslims spent $102 billion on Halal/Muslim-Friendly tourism, which is more than was spent by American (57.9) German (48.2) and British (24.3) tourists in the same year, and tourism spending is expected to reach $189 billion by 2025, accounting for approximately 15% of global tourism spending by then.
Among the Muslim population that allocated the most resources to Halal/Muslim Friendly tourism in 2021 are the Saudis, Emiratis and Qataris with an estimated expenditure of 13.7, 110 and 7.8 billion dollars respectively, followed closely by Kuwaitis and Russians, with a higher expenditure in both cases at 5 billion dollars.
Furthermore, in countries such as Russia, France or India, although not Muslim-majority countries, still have a significant Muslim population, Muslim consumers also spend large sums of money on Halal/Muslim-Friendly tourism.
This fact shows that the opportunities offered by this fast-growing market do not come exclusively from OIC member countries. It is overflowing and offers opportunities from virtually any country or region of the world. For businesses, the take-off of this market has not gone unnoticed.
The increased purchasing power and spending on Halal/Muslim-Friendly tourism by the more than 1.8 billion Muslims in our world, due to the economic growth experienced by OIC countries, has sparked business interest in a fast-growing market.
The countries could captivate Muslim tourists. They have almost all the necessary elements to position themselves among the world's leading Halal/Muslim-friendly tourist destinations: wonderful heritage sites, superb tourism infrastructure, rich and varied cuisines, an extraordinary climate, and so on.
Even so, and despite the search by these tourists for services in line with their religious beliefs, there are no tourism companies that have adapted their strategies to meet the demand of this growing segment.
Reach
Muslim tourists are demanding customers who value hospitality, exclusivity and respectful treatment of their beliefs. Taking care of them properly is key to making their stay in our establishment more comfortable and trying to make them loyal customers. To do this, it is essential to know and follow a series of guidelines.
The proposal aims to develop and deliver a 10-hour course on Halal/Muslim-friendly tourism to help Latin American tourism companies better understand this fast-growing market and its regulation, identify and find the main opportunities it offers, and adapt their businesses to capitalise on these untapped commercial opportunities.
