Asonahores emphasized that the leadership seen in 2025 is not the product of an isolated event, but rather the result of public and private policies aimed at the sector’s sustainable development—actions that have promoted a diversified tourism offer, high levels of air connectivity, and significant standards of quality, safety, and infrastructure. Air connectivity, in particular, was a decisive factor, with millions of visitors arriving by air, reflecting the Dominican Republic’s capacity to maintain and attract international routes that support a steady flow of travelers from a variety of source markets.
The destination’s dominant position is also evident in its share of regional tourism: the country reached approximately 12% of all tourists visiting Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean—up from 9% recorded in 2019—demonstrating a clear consolidation of its competitive participation in the region’s tourism industry.
Regarding the origin of visitors, Asonahores noted that traditional markets such as the United States and Canada continued to contribute a substantial portion of tourist inflows, with notable increases in their presence, while markets such as Argentina and Colombia also played a prominent role in arrival patterns throughout 2025. This dynamism in international arrivals has strengthened demand across different tourism hubs in the country, with major airports such as Punta Cana, Las Américas, Cibao, Puerto Plata, Higüero, and La Romana standing out, each contributing significantly to overall passenger volumes.
For Asonahores, these achievements—beyond preserving quantitative growth in tourism—also have a positive economic and social impact, since the consolidation of the industry translates into job creation, increased foreign direct investment, higher foreign-currency earnings, and a multiplier effect that benefits related sectors such as hospitality, gastronomy, transportation, and entertainment. The association also underscored the importance of continuing to strengthen tourism sustainability, with an emphasis on responsible practices that improve the experience for visitors and residents alike.
In the international arena, the performance of Dominican tourism has also been reaffirmed in spaces such as the International Tourism Fair (FITUR 2026), where Asonahores and key industry stakeholders emphasized the destination’s competitiveness, investment opportunities, and the country’s ability to attract agreements and projects that further expand its global reach. In addition, diversification into emerging segments such as sports, cultural, gastronomic, and meetings tourism has opened new avenues for growth that complement the traditional sun-and-beach model, consolidating a robust offer that can adapt to the demands of the global market.
As the Dominican Republic moves toward the close of 2026, Asonahores reaffirms its commitment to working jointly with government authorities, the private sector, and international organizations to maintain the growth trajectory, strengthen strategic investments, and ensure that the benefits generated by tourism are distributed more equitably across the national economy and contribute to the well-being of the Dominican population.
