The meeting was held within the framework of the Peru Travel Mart, where the Regional Government of Lambayeque, represented by the Regional Tourism Manager, Félix Nicanor Mío Sánchez, is presenting an important showcase of the region’s tourism potential.
The initiative envisions a travel experience connecting historical sites, religious traditions, and cultural expressions linked to the spiritual legacy of the region. Beyond promoting tourism, the program seeks to stimulate local economies, encourage entrepreneurship, and create new opportunities for small business owners, artisans, tourism operators, and families connected to the service sector.
Antonio Santos highlighted the strategic value of the proposal and noted that religious tourism currently represents one of the segments with the greatest potential for growth and social transformation in many countries. He also acknowledged Lambayeque’s efforts to develop a distinctive tourism offering that combines identity, sustainability, and community participation, all of which are essential for strengthening competitive destinations capable of generating a positive impact within their territories.
During the meeting, it was also confirmed that Félix Nicanor Mio Sánchez will participate on behalf of the Regional Government of Lambayeque in the International Religious Tourism Congress “Land of Faith and Life,” which will take place from July 8 to 10 in San Salvador, El Salvador. During this major international gathering, he will officially present “The Pope’s Route” initiative, showcasing to authorities, specialists, and representatives of the international tourism sector the cultural and spiritual potential of Lambayeque.
The region’s participation in this congress will help expand cooperation networks, attract the interest of international tour operators, and strengthen alliances for the exchange of experiences in religious tourism. Likewise, it will open new opportunities to position Lambayeque’s rich heritage in international markets interested in experiences connected to spirituality, culture, and history.
Peru Travel Mart has become a key platform for promoting emerging destinations and innovative initiatives within Peruvian tourism. In this context, the meeting between Antonio Santos del Valle and Félix Nicanor Mio Sánchez reflects a shared interest in strengthening projects capable of generating sustainable territorial development and positioning Lambayeque as an international benchmark in religious and cultural tourism in the years ahead.
The authorities agreed that contemporary tourism requires authentic, inclusive proposals closely connected to local communities. Therefore, they emphasized the importance of continuing coordinated work among public institutions, international organizations, and private sector stakeholders to ensure that the benefits of tourism growth directly reach the population. They also underscored that projects such as “The Route of Pope Leo XIV” contribute to strengthening regional identity and preserving the cultural and religious expressions that form part of the collective memory of northern Peru.
The meeting held in Lima also reaffirmed the commitment to promoting initiatives that connect tourism, culture, and human development, generating sustainable opportunities and greater international visibility for Lambayeque within the region’s leading religious tourism circuits.
The agenda presented during Peru Travel Mart will continue to move forward in the coming months through promotional activities, institutional coordination, and participation in international events specialized in religious and cultural tourism.
