Peru strengthens religious tourism through training and international cooperation

25-07-2026

Peru continues to reinforce its strategy to establish itself as one of Latin America's leading religious tourism destinations through a series of training and promotional initiatives designed to position this segment as a driver of economic, cultural, and social development. In this context, the National Chamber of Tourism of Peru (CANATUR), the World Religious Tourism Network, and a range of public and private institutions will host two major specialized events in August aimed at strengthening the sector's capabilities and promoting new tourism products centered on the country's rich spiritual heritage.

The first event will take place on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the Meliá Lima Hotel, where the First Specialized Conference on Religious Tourism will bring together tourism entrepreneurs, tour operators, government officials, academics, and leading national and international experts. The gathering has been designed to encourage knowledge exchange, examine global industry trends, and introduce innovative tools that will help develop a more competitive and diversified religious tourism offering.

The conference will provide comprehensive training for professionals across the tourism value chain. Participants will explore the growing potential of religious tourism as a strategic market segment, the creation of themed routes and visitor experiences, tourism product commercialization, digital marketing strategies, and the application of artificial intelligence to enhance the promotion of faith-based destinations. International case studies will also be presented, offering valuable insights into successful models that could strengthen Peru's competitiveness in this expanding global market.
