Shopping tourism is redefining the modern hotel experience

22-08-2026

Shopping tourism is becoming an increasingly important dimension of the travel experience, creating new opportunities for hotels and destinations to gain a deeper understanding of their visitors’ needs, motivations, and expectations. According to a study conducted by the Tourism and Society Think Tank (TSTT), led by Antonio Santos del Valle, President of TSTT, and Corina Mai Butler, and developed with the participation of a distinguished group of hospitality professionals from countries across Latin America, Europe, and the United States, travelers’ behavior during shopping activities provides valuable insights into trends that extend far beyond retail spending.

These findings can contribute to the development of a more personalized and integrated hotel offering, one that is more closely connected to the destination and better aligned with the evolving expectations and preferences of today’s travelers.
