India strengthens tourism as a key driver of economic growth

India’s travel and tourism sector continues to reinforce its position as one of the country’s leading economic drivers, with an estimated contribution of $263.6 billion in 2025. The industry has not only maintained steady growth but has also reaffirmed its strategic importance as a catalyst for investment, job creation, and economic development, supporting India’s ambitions to strengthen its standing among the world’s top tourism destinations.

According to the latest projections, travel and tourism account for approximately 6.6% of India’s gross domestic product and support around 46.2 million jobs, representing more than one in every ten positions nationwide. These figures underscore the sector’s significant role within the national economy and highlight its ability to stimulate related industries, including transportation, hospitality, food services, retail, and a wide range of business services.
