The planned merger aims to create a stronger, more representative organization encompassing over 5,000 points of sale, generating more than €10 billion in turnover, and employing over 12,000 professionals.
The integration process will be gradual. Initially, both organizations will establish a collaboration framework to align strategies and progressively integrate their structures, while addressing the necessary legal considerations.
Another strategic priority is strengthening territorial representation. The plan involves integrating UNAV-affiliated agencies into Fetave’s regional associations, leveraging their local presence to enhance institutional influence across Spain.
Beyond integration, the new leadership has outlined key priorities including sector professionalization, institutional leadership, and improved member services. Nearly one hundred initiatives are planned to modernize travel agencies and adapt them to evolving market conditions.
On the regulatory front, UNAV will continue advocating for sector-specific adjustments, including opposition to certain regulatory measures and support for more tailored legal frameworks that reflect operational realities.
Technological innovation will also play a central role. The strategy includes promoting artificial intelligence tools for travel agents, strengthening cybersecurity protocols, and launching a new quality certification, “UNAV Seguro,” to enhance trust and professionalism.
Another key issue will be the reform of Spain’s social tourism program (Imserso), with calls for economic adjustments to ensure long-term sustainability and service quality.
This new presidency also coincides with a symbolic milestone. In 2027, UNAV will celebrate its 50th anniversary, providing an opportunity to reinforce its positioning and highlight the role of travel agencies within the tourism ecosystem.
César Gutiérrez’s leadership marks the beginning of a transformative period for Spain’s travel agency sector. The pursuit of unity, modernization, and stronger institutional influence positions the industry for significant evolution in the coming years.
