“Today we begin a new chapter for tourism in Mexico, with investments that not only strengthen the sector but also generate well-being, regional development, and new opportunities for thousands of families. This investment portfolio reflects confidence in our country and the coordinated work between the public and private sectors,” she stated.
Regarding the distribution of investments, she explained that ten states concentrate the largest number of projects: Quintana Roo, Nayarit, Jalisco, Baja California Sur, Guerrero, Nuevo León, Hidalgo, Baja California, Sonora, and Yucatán, with investment amounts ranging between 1.3 billion and 8.3 billion dollars.
She also noted that the remaining states across the country have investment projects as well, reflecting broad national participation in advancing tourism development.
In this context, four airlines announced initiatives to strengthen Mexico’s air connectivity, reinforcing the country’s position as a strategic international destination.
Aeroméxico reported the launch of new international routes for 2025 and 2026, as well as the continuation of its Mexico City–Barcelona route, which had previously operated on a seasonal basis and will now become a permanent route.
Meanwhile, Mexicana de Aviación announced the start of operations of its new route to Acapulco beginning in June, along with the addition of four more routes, bringing its total network to 19 destinations.
Viva, for its part, announced new domestic routes to Colima and Saltillo, as well as international routes to Cartagena and Medellín, Colombia, departing from Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA).
Volaris also confirmed the launch of 35 new routes for 2026, reaching a total of 259 routes and significantly strengthening both domestic and international connectivity.
During the forum, Rodríguez Zamora explained that this space brings together key stakeholders from the public sector, international organizations, development banks, commercial banking, and private industry, with the aim of strengthening dialogue and opening new pathways to boost tourism investment in the country.
She detailed that key instruments were presented during the forum to support sector financing, including the Tourism Investment Guide, developed in collaboration with UN Tourism and CAF; a Tourism Investment Portfolio featuring strategic projects; and a Decalogue of Sustainable Investments aimed at guiding growth under responsible criteria.
Among the attendees were also representatives from CAF —the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean— including Mr. Oscar Rueda, whose participation underscores the importance of regional financing in promoting sustainable, high-impact tourism projects.
During the official inauguration of Tianguis Turístico México 2026, Rodríguez Zamora was joined by governors, tourism ministers from all 32 states, as well as representatives from chambers, associations, and leaders from across the tourism value chain, in a gathering that reflected unity, coordination, and the strength of Mexico’s tourism industry.
Accompanied by Mexico’s Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, and the Governor of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, she emphasized that this edition marks a historic moment, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Tianguis Turístico and its return to Acapulco, the destination where it was first held in 1975 and which once again becomes the most important meeting point for national and international tourism.
She noted that over five decades, the Tianguis has established itself as a strategic platform for tourism promotion and commercialization, bringing together stakeholders committed to positioning Mexico as a global tourism powerhouse.
“Tianguis Turístico México 2026 not only commemorates 50 years of history but also represents a return to its origins with a renewed vision, the collective effort of an entire industry, and the opportunity to showcase to the world a united, diverse Mexico ready to continue growing through tourism,” she concluded.
Representing Mexico’s President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez Velázquez, reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism sector.
She recognized the work of Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, her team, and tourism authorities from across the country for their efforts in promoting Mexico internationally. She also congratulated Guerrero Governor Evelyn Salgado for organizing the event and for Acapulco’s role as host of this historic edition.
She highlighted that Acapulco is undergoing a phase of recovery and renewal, repositioning itself as a leading tourism destination, and emphasized Mexico’s natural, cultural, and gastronomic richness as key drivers for attracting visitors from around the world.
The inauguration was attended by Veracruz Governor Rocío Nahle García; Morelos Governor Margarita González Saravia; Deputy Minister of Tourism Nathalie Desplas Puel; Director General of the National Tourism Development Fund (FONATUR), Sebastián Ramírez Mendoza; Chair of the Tourism Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, Tania Palacios Kuri; Senator Beatriz Mojica Morga, Chair of the Culture Commission and member of the Tourism Commission; Guerrero’s Secretary of Tourism, Simón Quiñones Orozco; President of the Association of Tourism Secretaries of Mexico, Bernardo Cueto Riestra; and the association’s President-elect, Roberto Monroy.
Also in attendance were Acapulco Mayor Abelina López Rodríguez; Colombia’s Vice Minister of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Juan Sebastián Sánchez de Dederle; Director of UN Tourism’s Regional Office for the Americas, Héctor Kadri; UNESCO representative Andrés Morales Arciniegas; Director General of the Maya Train, General Óscar David Lozano Águila; Director General of Grupo Mundo Maya, General Adolfo Héctor Toninho Velasco Bernal; and Director General of Mexicana de Aviación, General Leobardo Ávila Bojórquez.
From the tourism and business sector, attendees included Antonio Cosío Pando, President of the National Tourism Business Council; Octavio de la Torre de Stéffano, President of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce, Services, and Tourism; Román Caamal Coh, representative of the Peninsular Alliance for Community Tourism; and Angelina Martínez Pérez, representative of community tourism.
