For his part, Archbishop Francisco Cerro Chaves of Toledo emphasized the far-reaching significance of this agreement:
“Heritage is not a treasure kept for the few, but a gift that must be shared. This agreement reminds us of that mission.”
“Lumina”: A Groundbreaking and Now More Inclusive Experience
Among the initiatives that will directly benefit from this agreement is “Lumina Catedral de Toledo,” the immersive experience created by Meraki Cultura Audiovisual for the Cathedral Chapter.
In just one year, Lumina has welcomed thousands of visitors from all over the world and has been recognized as Best Video Mapping 2024 in Spain, establishing itself as an international benchmark in religious and cultural tourism. This night-time sensory journey inside the Cathedral combines video mapping, architectural lighting, music, narration, and olfactory devices to create a truly unique multi-sensory experience.
With the new agreement, Lumina Catedral de Toledo will also become the first immersive experience of its kind in the world to be fully accessible, with the progressive introduction of features such as audio description, an induction loop system, adapted sessions, and an accessible website.
Meraki Cultura Audiovisual: Innovation at the Service of Religious Tourism
Meraki Cultura Audiovisual, a Toledo-based company affiliated with the World Religious Tourism Network, and creator of the Lumina night-time immersive experience alongside the Cathedral Chapter, will also be responsible for carrying out these new adaptation works in collaboration with the ONCE Foundation.
With more than 27 years of experience in the audiovisual and cultural fields, Meraki is committed to placing technological innovation at the service of spiritual heritage and the visitor experience.
Primatialis Sedes Toletana” Foundation
The “Primatialis Sedes Toletana” Foundation was canonically established in 2022 by the Archbishop of Toledo. Its mission is to “foster, promote, and support initiatives that advance the works of apostolate, evangelization, and culture of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Toledo, Primate of Spain, bringing together the collaboration and participation of various canonical and civil institutions.”
ONCE Foundation
The ONCE Foundation for the Cooperation and Social Inclusion of People with Disabilities was established in February 1988 by agreement of the ONCE General Council. It has become an instrument of cooperation and solidarity from blind people in Spain toward other groups of people with disabilities, working to improve their living conditions.
The ONCE Foundation’s primary goal is to implement programs for labor integration, training, and employment for people with disabilities, as well as to promote global accessibility, fostering the creation of environments, products, and services designed for everyone.
