An experience that is transforming how we live heritage
Since its inauguration in December 2023, “Lumina Cathedral of Toledo” has welcomed thousands of national and international visitors, establishing itself as a benchmark in contemporary religious and cultural tourism. More than an audiovisual show, “Lumina” is a sensory experience that has completely transformed the tourist visit and the way heritage is lived, offering a nocturnal journey that combines art, history, and spirituality through the use of video mapping, surround sound, aromatherapy devices, and light in this emblematic temple of Christendom.
Developed as part of the celebrations for the Eighth Centenary of the Primatial Cathedral of Spain, the experience has been conceived as a living project—an ephemeral work that awakens each night inside the Cathedral of Toledo and which, given its technological nature, will be able to adapt to future liturgical festivities and special events.
Innovation, accessibility, and sustainability
Meraki Cultura Audiovisual, the company behind the experience and a member of the Red Mundial de Turismo Religioso, drives projects that combine innovation, heritage, and spirituality, consolidating Spain’s role as an international benchmark in religious and cultural tourism.
Winner of the Best Video Mapping in Spain 2024 award at the AV Integración Awards, “Lumina” has been showcased at international fairs such as FITUR and Sacrum Expo, positioning Toledo as a flagship destination for religious and spiritual tourism.
At present, thanks to a recent collaboration agreement with Fundación ONCE, the experience is undergoing a comprehensive adaptation for people with disabilities, which will make “Lumina Cathedral of Toledo” the first immersive experience of its kind in the world to be fully accessible to everyone, through the progressive implementation of measures such as audio description, a hearing loop (induction loop) system, adapted sessions, and an accessible website.
Faith, art, and technology in the service of emotion
Beyond innovation, “Lumina Cathedral of Toledo” proposes a universal language in which beauty and emotion become a bridge between past and present. Through light and digital art, the visitor not only contemplates heritage but lives it—an experience that unites contemplation, history, and spirituality.
“Lumina” is an example of how innovation can be placed at the service of what is most profound: moving people, touching visitors’ hearts, and opening paths for evangelization and culture.
With this Medal, the Primatial Cathedral of Toledo reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of heritage, accessibility, and high-quality religious tourism, projecting from the heart of Spain a new way of communicating faith through beauty.
