The city of Ibiza, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, will inaugurate this Wednesday, October 22, the first edition of dTAPASxIBZ, a route-and-competition that will turn the historic centre (Vila) into a map of flavours for five days, through Sunday the 26th. More than twenty restaurants will take part, with a clear goal: to position Ibiza as a year-round gastronomic reference beyond summer, energise the sector in the shoulder season, and reinforce the story of a local cuisine that is creative, sustainable, and deeply rooted in the territory. The curtain-raiser took place on Tuesday the 21st aboard the Ciudad de Barcelona, a Trasmed ferry (the Spanish shipping company of the Grimaldi Group), moored in Marina Botafoc, at a gathering that brought together institutional representatives, specialist media from Valencia, tourism professionals, content creators, and teams from the participating establishments—marking the official kick-off of an experience designed to be enjoyed street by street and bar by bar.

Beyond being a popular route, dTAPASxIBZ is a competition seeking excellence in small format: the tapa.

The winning establishment will be eligible to represent Ibiza at Spain’s National Pinchos and Tapas Championship, to be held in the city of Valladolid in 2026, provided it passes the pre-selection of the national jury. To choose the local winner, a panel will visit the pre-selected venues among the twenty participants. The jury comprises chef Óscar Molina—holder of a Michelin star at La Gaia—chef and ASCAIB president Koldo Royo, and Madrid chef-restaurateur Sacha Hormaechea, the soul behind El Fogón de Sacha. Their three complementary perspectives ensure rigour, discernment, and a contemporary reading of the tapa as a cultural expression of the Mediterranean. During the route, the public will be able to savour the proposals in participating restaurants and vote for their favourite via the official website, joining a culinary celebration that honours local produce, technique, and creativity without losing sight of proximity.

The presentation aboard Trasmed’s Ciudad de Barcelona symbolised the collaborative spirit driving the initiative, with the support of businesses, institutions, and the restaurant sector itself. Among those attending were Àlex Minchiotti, Ibiza City Council’s councillor for Commerce and Markets; Miguel Pardo, director of Institutional Relations at the Grimaldi Group; Jana Peiró, Trasmed’s director of Marketing and Passenger; Joan Roig, representing CAEB Ibiza; José Luis Pascual, from La Menorquina; Alfonso Robledo, president of FERIB; as well as Óscar Molina and Toni Martorell, CEO of AgenciaCom. As an appetiser, the event featured a tasting of one of Spain’s champion tapas prepared by Igor Rodríguez, winner of the national contest and ambassador of this edition—a nod to the high standards the organisers aim to set for the competition and an incentive for local talent to shine.

dTAPASxIBZ is launched with a clear long-term vision: to extend the season through gastronomy, stimulate local spending, and attract residents and visitors alike with a quality proposition that highlights local produce, culinary craftsmanship, and the dynamism of Ibiza’s hospitality scene. In this sense, the route acts as a collective showcase in which each bar and restaurant tells its story in a single bite—from contemporary interpretations of traditional recipes to creative touches that converse with modern techniques without abandoning their roots. Locals and travellers will find a flexible, enticing itinerary designed to discover hidden corners, talk with front- and back-of-house teams, and be surprised by textures, aromas, and nuances that prove why Ibiza is also best enjoyed at the table in autumn.

The event is backed by major sponsorship from Trasmed, the Spanish ferry company of the Grimaldi Group; the institutional support of the Ajuntament d’Eivissa; and the collaboration of PIMEEF, FERIB, CAEB, ASCAIB, My Uniform, San Miguel, La Menorquina, and Grupo Prensa Pitiusa, with the presentation led by Beatriz Díez of AgenciaCom.
