The city of Madrid became the stage for an event that brought Guatemala closer to the heart of Europe through a vibrant and symbolic presentation. As part of a joint initiative between the Guatemalan Institute of Tourism (INGUAT) and the World Religious Tourism Network, the long-awaited destination presentation “Guatemala: Religious Tourism” took place on October 1 at the Hyatt Centric Gran Vía Hotel, gathering media representatives, tourism professionals, and institutional delegates.

The day began with welcoming remarks from the Ambassador of Guatemala to Spain, Mr. Jorge Skinner-Klee Arenales, who highlighted the country’s many beauties —from its natural landscapes to its rich cultural heritage— making it a unique destination within the Americas. In a brief but meaningful address, he emphasized the importance of building bridges between Guatemala and Spain through tourism, underscoring that religious and cultural traditions represent a distinctive value of great appeal to international travelers.

The main focus of the presentation was led by Ms. Claudia Coronado, Head of Operations and Commercialization at INGUAT, who enthusiastically and thoroughly showcased Guatemala’s tourism offer centered on religious tourism.
