Successful launch of the Ibero-American Network of Astrotourism Destinations (RIDA)

With enthusiastic participation from representatives of all Ibero-American countries, as well as professionals and institutions from the United States, France, and Croatia, the Tourism and Society Think Tank (TSTT) successfully held the official launch of the Ibero-American Network of Astrotourism Destinations (RIDA) on May 23.

The virtual event, conducted in a spirit of collaboration and shared vision, was inaugurated by Antonio Santos, President of TSTT, who emphasized the importance of astrotourism as a tool for international cohesion, preservation of the night sky, and a driver of sustainable development for local territories.

Following his remarks, Santos gave the floor to Rafael Vera Castillo, General Director of RIDA, former mayor of Vicuña (Chile), and a renowned promoter of astrotourism in Latin America. Vera Castillo presented the structure, vision, and strategic goals of the Network, highlighting the value of the sky as a shared heritage of Ibero-American peoples and its potential to strengthen local identity, boost regional economies, and promote scientific education.

The Network, conceived as a collaborative platform, aims to integrate municipalities, institutions, and public and private actors interested in the development of astrotourism. It offers an inclusive membership model with benefits such as technical training, international visibility, access to cooperation projects, and certification of best practices.

During the event, messages of support, interest, and congratulations were received from across the continent and Europe, reaffirming the need for a shared space to promote stargazing tourism with a responsible and sustainable approach.

With this successful launch, RIDA establishes itself as a pioneering network of its kind, ready to lead the enhancement of the night sky in Ibero-America and beyond.
