Historic milestone at Tianguis Turístico 2025

Tianguis Turístico 2025, held in Baja California, set a new benchmark in Mexican tourism history by becoming the most successful edition in its 50-year trajectory. It earned a Guinness World Record for the highest attendance at a tourism fair in the country.

Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, Mexico’s Secretary of Tourism, presented the results of the event, which gathered 8,781 participants from 46 countries, further solidifying Mexico’s status as a world-class tourism destination.

During the event, 71,882 business appointments were recorded, with 50% resulting in commercial agreements. This figure marks significant progress in the promotion and marketing of national tourist destinations. A total of 1,773 buyers participated, mainly from the United States and Canada, strengthening tourism and trade ties within North America and underscoring the importance of this regional market for Mexican tourism.

The 49th edition also had a substantial economic impact on the host region, generating 1.38 billion pesos in revenue and achieving over 90% hotel occupancy—the highest in the event’s history. These results highlight the success of the promotional strategies led by tourism authorities and the effective collaboration between public and private sectors.

On the digital front, the event reached more than 64 million unique accounts, becoming the highest-rated Tianguis Turístico online to date. This success reflects the power of digital marketing and the growing role of online platforms in tourism promotion.

The most in-demand segments among buyers were sun and beach travel and cruises (36%), cultural tourism (33%), nature (23%), adventure (22%), social tourism (22%), and gastronomy (16%). This diversity underscores the richness and variety of Mexico’s tourism offerings, capable of catering to a wide range of traveler profiles and preferences.

One of the key innovations of this edition was the "Dialogue of Captains," a forum for reflection and knowledge exchange with the participation of governors, tourism secretaries, community leaders, and experts. This initiative provided a space to share experiences and discuss sustainable tourism development strategies in Mexico.

Additionally, 28 new international routes and 7 domestic ones were announced, boosting the country’s air connectivity and improving access to tourist destinations. These routes will help increase visitor numbers and diversify source markets.

Free cultural activities were organized across the four municipalities of Baja California and in San Diego, California, bringing the event closer to local communities and international visitors while showcasing Mexican traditions. These activities reinforced the government’s commitment to inclusive and accessible tourism.

Secretary Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that the innovations introduced this year are here to stay, marking a turning point in the organization of Tianguis Turístico. She noted that this event transformed lives and brought shared prosperity to the people of Baja California, further positioning Mexico as a top-tier tourist destination.

With these achievements, Tianguis Turístico 2025 not only broke records but also laid the groundwork for the future of tourism in Mexico, proving the country’s ability to host world-class events and adapt to the evolving demands of the global tourism market.
