Ecuador tightens entry requirements for foreign visitors in 2025

As of 2025, Ecuador has introduced new immigration measures affecting foreign nationals seeking to enter the country. These new regulations aim to strengthen national security and ensure more effective migration control.

One of the most notable changes is the requirement for travelers from countries categorized under a “Special Regime” to present an apostilled criminal record certificate. This measure primarily targets land border crossings with Colombia and Peru, and is intended to prevent individuals with criminal backgrounds from entering the country.

In addition, all foreign visitors must hold a valid passport with at least six months of validity from the date of entry. For those who require a visa, it must be obtained prior to arrival. Applicants must also submit additional documentation such as a travel itinerary, round-trip tickets, and proof of sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay.
