These training programs, delivered via the online platform “Dubai Way” developed by the Dubai College of Tourism (DCT), feature real-life case studies, interactive modules, and video content designed to foster empathy, understanding, and practical knowledge.
In addition, personalized sensory guides and hidden disability awareness lanyards were introduced at various public venues and tourist locations. These tools, developed by IBCCES following on-site assessments, assist individuals with autism and other sensory conditions in planning their visits and effectively communicating their needs to staff. Over 300 hotels and 15 public spaces, including beaches and parks, have earned IBCCES certification, guaranteeing that they meet international standards for sensory accessibility.
Isam Kazim, CEO of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, emphasized the significance of this milestone. “Dubai is setting new benchmarks for accessible tourism, and this certification marks a meaningful step toward a more inclusive environment for all our visitors,” Kazim stated. He further highlighted the city’s commitment to continuous improvement in hospitality and service for people of all abilities.
Dubai’s designation as an “Autism-Friendly” destination not only enhances the travel experience for individuals with ASD and their families but also positions the city as a global leader in inclusive tourism. This recognition reflects Dubai’s broader vision of innovation and hospitality, and its dedication to creating memorable and equitable experiences for all types of travelers.
With this achievement, Dubai sets an important example for other cities aspiring to improve accessibility and inclusivity in tourism. The collaboration between public and private sectors, alongside the development of tailored training programs and support tools, demonstrates that it is possible to create a travel environment that is welcoming, safe, and enriching for everyone—regardless of their specific needs.
This milestone marks just the beginning of a series of initiatives that Dubai plans to implement to further enhance accessibility and inclusivity across all facets of urban and tourist life. The city continues to work closely with international organizations and experts to ensure that every visitor enjoys a safe, comfortable, and fulfilling experience.
