Dubai leads the way in inclusive tourism

Dubai has officially been recognized as the first “Autism-Friendly” tourist destination in Asia, receiving certification from the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This achievement is the result of a comprehensive strategy led by Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), which has transformed the city into a model of accessibility and inclusion for travelers with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other sensory-related conditions.

The initiative began through collaboration between DET and IBCCES, a globally respected organization known for its training in autism awareness and sensory sensitivity. The objective was to adapt Dubai’s tourism experience to make it more accessible, welcoming, and intuitive for all visitors, regardless of their cognitive or sensory abilities. This led to the implementation of a wide range of inclusive measures across key sectors such as aviation, hospitality, transportation, and attractions.

One of the most impactful actions was the rollout of specialized training programs for frontline staff in tourism-related industries. More than 70,000 employees have completed autism and sensory awareness courses over the past two years.
