During the assembly, Mr. Lomello, together with the president of the Tourism Board of Tucumán, Domingo Amaya, announced that the Itinerant Congress on Religious Tourism will be held under the slogan ‘Tourism and Development: Evangelisation and Peace’. This event will take place in San Miguel de Tucumán on 27, 28 and 29 August 2025, in the framework of the Jubilee 2025.

The congress aims to bring together religious leaders, academics, entrepreneurs and public officials to discuss and share experiences on the role of religious tourism in economic and social development, as well as its contribution to evangelisation and the promotion of peace.

Leaders of tourism business associations, such as the Confederación Argentina de la Mediana Empresa (CAME), the Cámara Argentina de Turismo (CAT) and the Asociación Argentina de Agencias de Viajes y Turismo (FAAVyT) have already confirmed their attendance. In addition, officials from the National Secretariat of Tourism, Environment and Sports, ministers of tourism of the provinces and mayors of cities with sanctuaries are expected to participate.

Bishops and priests from the main sanctuaries in the country have also pledged their active participation in the event. International experts and academics from Argentinean universities are also expected to attend, who will contribute their knowledge and experience in the field of religious tourism.

Tucumán as a religious tourism destination

Tucumán has a great potential for religious tourism, with emblematic sites of historical importance, as well as celebrations and festivities that attract numerous worshippers and tourists every year. The holding of this congress in the province represents an opportunity to highlight its cultural and spiritual richness, positioning it as an outstanding destination in the field of religious tourism.

The organisation of the Itinerant Congress on Religious Tourism in Tucumán is in line with tourism promotion policies that seek to diversify the offer and attract new segments of visitors. It is hoped that this event will boost local economic development, promote job creation and contribute to the strengthening of the cultural and religious identity of the region.

In addition, the participation of prominent national and international leaders in the tourism and religious sector will allow for the exchange of best practices and the generation of strategic alliances that will boost the growth of religious tourism in Argentina and throughout Latin America.
