Gloria Guevara: ‘I will be Secretary General of UN Tourism’

Maniwa, Japan – March 19, 2025 – The 7th edition of the Japan World’s Tourism Film Festival (JWTFF) has successfully concluded in the city of Maniwa, celebrating excellence in tourism storytelling through film. Held from March 17 to 19, the festival brought together industry professionals from around the globe to network, share insights, and receive prestigious awards.

This year, the festival received entries from across 101 countries. At the Award Ceremony on March 19, more than 50 productions were recognized across multiple categories in both the National and International Competitions.

Herrera thanked Guevara for the opportunity to accept the interview, highlighting the traditional independence and non-alignment of the PDA Group in journalism specialising in tourism, and she raised three central issues: 1- Whether Guevara's representation comes from Mexico or Saudi Arabia in this instance 2- The WTTC, the World Travel and Tourism Council, led by her during the Covid pandemic and Safe Travels, and 3- The organisation's debatable and unreliable Barometer.

Ramón de Isequilla, for his part, raised Mexico's double candidacy to the UN, pointing out Guevara's own candidacy to the former UNWTO and that of his compatriot Gabriela Ramos for the same position but at UNESCO, and he also based his participation, referring to, asking and re-asking questions about the representativeness of the WTTC, World Travel and Tourism Council and the group of Affiliate Members, an organisation in which he himself was a member for many years in representation of Uruguay, before the organisation that Guevara aspires to lead.
