The city of Trujillo, in Peru’s northern La Libertad region, is preparing to welcome more than 48,000 visitors with the launch of an innovative tourist route dedicated to Pope Leo XIV, a key figure in the recent history of the Catholic Church whose connection to Peru has sparked growing international interest. This initiative, promoted by local authorities in coordination with the Church and various cultural entities, seeks to position Trujillo as a leading religious and cultural tourism destination in Latin America.

The announcement was made during La Libertad Tourism Week at an official ceremony attended by representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (MINCETUR), the regional government, the Provincial Municipality of Trujillo, and the local archdiocese. All agreed in highlighting the transformative potential of this proposal, which blends living history with spirituality, architectural heritage with faith, and Trujillo’s identity with a universal narrative.
