Santo Domingo de Silos (Spain) Announces the 10th Edition of the Silos Quick Painting Award
30-06-25
Santo Domingo de Silos, one of the most remarkable medieval treasures in the region of Castilla y León, will once again transform into a large open-air art studio on July 6, 2025. On that day, the 10th Edition of the Silos Quick Painting Award will take place—an event that has become a fixture on the cultural calendar of the region, attracting artists from all over the country each year. Organized by the Silos Foundation, the competition seeks to merge contemporary artistic expression with the monumental, historical, and scenic richness of this Benedictine heritage site in the province of Burgos.
Throughout the day, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, participants will set up their easels across the streets, squares, and natural surroundings of Silos, aiming to capture on canvas the essence and beauty of a place that has long inspired travelers, artists, and scholars. Santo Domingo de Silos is not only renowned for its iconic monastery and Romanesque cloister, but also for its natural landscapes, historic corners, and spiritual ambiance—all of which make it a uniquely stimulating setting for artistic creation.
The competition is open to any artist wishing to take part, with no restrictions regarding age or nationality. Participants may work in any style or technique of their choosing. Registration is free and can be completed via an online form available at the following link: https://forms.gle/e3x7sNuzW5TnBFvT9. On the same platform, the full competition rules and guidelines are available, including information on requirements, schedule, canvas stamping locations, and judging criteria.
Three main prizes will be awarded: a first prize of €1,200, a second prize of €700, and a third prize of €500, along with certificates for the winners. A jury composed of art and culture professionals will evaluate the works, considering both technical quality and originality in interpreting the environment.
