Presented the XX International Advanced Course in Cultural Management (CAIGC) | July 8–11, 2025 – Margarita Island (Venezuela)

From July 8 to 11, 2025, Margarita Island will host the 20th International Advanced Course in Cultural Management (CAIGC), whose central theme this year will be sustainable cultural development, through the project Dream Paria: Ideas to Build a Sustainable Territory. The event, organized by the Ecomuseum of Paria in collaboration with the Margarita Solidaria Foundation, will take place at the foundation’s headquarters in Porlamar, located in the Makro Shopping Center (El Colegio Street), in the state of Nueva Esparta.

This edition of the CAIGC aims to present to cultural and tourism management professionals from Venezuela, the Americas, and Europe the Ecomuseum of Paria project, which has been underway since 2015 in the northeastern Paria region (Venezuela), as a model of cultural management linked to sustainable development. The program will include keynote lectures, panel discussions, round tables, fine aroma chocolate tastings from the Paria territory, and technical visits to sustainable cultural development projects, promoting dialogue among culture, community, and the environment.

The program features high-level presentations, beginning with an opening lecture by Dr. Architect Federico Soriano Peláez on “Sustainable Territories and the 2030 Agenda”, a vision on biodiversity and regenerative development by Eng. Luis Ysmael Rodríguez; and presentations on the Ecomuseum of Paria, the Cocoa Bioroute of Paria, and the Humboldt & Bonpland Scientific, Cultural and Tourist Route, led by engineer and cultural manager José Luis Figueroa Sánchez. Round tables will be held in collaboration with the Inter-American Institute for Agricultural Cooperation (IICA), the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), and the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM), along with conferences focused on responsible and sustainable tourism, traditional boatbuilding, and agro-biotourism.

Featured Speakers

The 20th CAIGC will feature a diverse group of speakers with academic, technical, and community-based expertise, including:

Federico Soriano Peláez: Architect and PhD from UPM, professor of Architectural Projects, with his own firm and notable projects (Euskalduna, MEGA Museum, among others). Awarded prizes such as Enric Miralles and Via Arquitectura.
Javier Caricatto: Architect and PhD in Architecture from UCV, current dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism (FAU) at UCV, associate professor with decades of experience and award-winning architectural and urban design work.
Ramón José Fermín: Architect, professor, and researcher in urban sustainability, PhD candidate, with numerous projects, publications, and academic recognitions.
Miguel Ángel Arvelo Sánchez: Agronomist, consultant, and IICA representative with over 28 years of experience in agricultural cooperation, specializing in water resource management and agro-industry.
Marvin Blanco Murillo: Costa Rican, food engineer, and master in tourism management, with extensive experience in agro-industry, agrotourism, and hemispheric networks.
Luis López Méndez: Agronomist with a master’s degree from the Philippines, expert consultant in bioeconomy and sustainable rural development; leads high-impact agricultural projects in Venezuela.
Yanira Irlanda Vázquez González: Venezuelan agronomist with over two decades of experience in agricultural health and food safety at IICA.
Silvia Elena Fuentes Sanguino: Museologist and cultural educator, former director of the Museum of Printmaking and the National Art Gallery Foundation, with leadership in public libraries and university teaching. Currently General Coordinator of Hacienda La Trinidad Cultural Park (HLTPC).
José Luis Figueroa Sánchez: Forest engineer and master in Cultural Management, director of CAIGC, with 30 years of experience in cultural cooperation, training, and cultural tourism.
David Bottome Fernandez: Filmmaker and explorer with 25 years of experience in aerial and maritime navigation; has led award-winning archaeological and documentary expeditions and heads the Margarita Solidaria Foundation.
Luis Ysmael Rodríguez: Forest engineer with a master’s in environmental impact, conservation advisor, and professor at UPT Paria, specializing in natural resource management.

This interdisciplinary panel reflects CAIGC’s commitment to building sustainable territories through the interaction of academic knowledge, cultural sensitivity, and community action.
