Argentina tightens migration policy with new entry and residency requirements

05-06-25

The Argentine government has enacted a sweeping reform of its migration policy through Decree 366/2025, published in the Official Gazette on May 29. This measure introduces significant changes to the requirements for entry, stay, and access to public services for foreign nationals, with the aim of strengthening immigration control and ensuring a fair distribution of state resources.

From now on, all foreigners wishing to enter Argentina must do so exclusively through officially authorized border crossings and must submit a sworn statement detailing the purpose of their visit, along with proof of health insurance coverage for their stay in the country. Failure to present such insurance may be grounds for denial of entry, although emergency medical care will still be provided regardless of the individual’s migration status.
