This summer, the city of Antequera, nestled in the heart of Andalusia, will transform into an open-air stage for one of opera’s great masterpieces. On 18 July 2025 at 10:00 p.m., the emblematic bullring of Antequera will host a special performance of La sonnambula by Vincenzo Bellini—an evening where music, history, and tourism come together under the stars for an unforgettable cultural event.

More than a concert, this performance promises to be an immersive experience for the senses—an invitation to rediscover Antequera through the beauty of the arts. It will be a night that not only enriches the city's vibrant cultural life but also reaffirms its status as one of Andalusia’s most inspiring destinations.

Antequera: A cultural jewel rediscovered through opera

With its UNESCO-listed dolmens, majestic Alcazaba, richly adorned baroque churches, and celebrated Andalusian gastronomy, Antequera is already a cherished treasure of inland Málaga. Now, with opera returning to the city after 25 years, it adds yet another jewel to its cultural crown. Visitors will not only explore timeless monuments and landscapes but also enjoy a world-class operatic performance in one of the region’s most atmospheric venues.

A bold, top-tier production with a vision for the future

This production of La sonnambula is presented by Ras de Terra, an avant-garde cultural project based in Extremadura, committed to bringing high culture to extraordinary settings. The initiative reflects a broader mission to decentralise the performing arts and make opera accessible beyond traditional stages. “Territory must be part of our cultural present and future—not as an exception, but as the new standard,” affirm the organisers.
