Málaga (Spain) enforces new rules for tourists to improve coexistence

Those planning to visit Málaga this summer will need to pack more than just sunscreen — they’ll also need a new attitude. The Andalusian city has launched a campaign aimed at raising awareness among tourists to curb behaviors that disrupt the daily lives of its residents.
Under the slogan “Improve Your Stay,” the city council has released a list of ten rules designed to balance the tourist experience with local well-being. Key points include keeping noise levels down, especially at night, and dressing appropriately outside of beach areas. Visitors who fail to comply could face fines of up to 750 euros.
The campaign, which can be seen on buses, billboards, and social media, is a direct response to the growing frustration among locals about the impacts of mass tourism. Common complaints include loud music, shouting in residential neighborhoods, public drinking, and inappropriate attire.
