The state of Puebla, under the leadership of Governor Alejandro Armenta, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthen the tourism sector through strategies that promote inclusion, sustainability and quality. In a recent meeting with the Association of Hotels and Motels of Puebla A.C., the Secretary of Tourism, Yadira Lira Navarro, outlined the fundamental pillars of this initiative.
During the meeting, Lira Navarro emphasized the importance of developing tourism projects that balance economic growth with environmental preservation and social inclusion. “Our governor's vision is clear: we want tourism that not only boosts the economy, but that is accessible and enjoyable for all. Inclusion, sustainability and quality will be the fundamental pillars of this new stage for Puebla,” he said.
One of the central points of the meeting was the need to improve tourism infrastructure and services in the state. This includes the modernization of facilities, the creation of accessible spaces for people with disabilities and the implementation of technologies that facilitate the visitor experience. In addition, the importance of offering high quality services that meet the expectations of national and international tourists was highlighted.
The education and training of personnel in the tourism sector is essential to guarantee excellent service. The Ministry of Tourism plans to implement training programs that address issues such as customer service, sustainability, accessibility, and the use of new technologies. These programs seek to raise Puebla's competitiveness as a tourist destination and ensure that visitors have memorable experiences.
Another relevant aspect discussed was the reactivation of the State Tourism Council, a body that will allow for more effective coordination between the public and private sectors. This council will be fundamental for strategic planning, the promotion of joint initiatives and the evaluation of policies that promote sustainable tourism development in the region.
The relocation of the 3% lodging tax was also discussed, with the objective of allocating these resources to projects that strengthen tourism promotion and improve infrastructure. This measure seeks to generate a virtuous circle in which income from tourism is reinvested in the sector itself, boosting its growth and development.
Manuel Domínguez Gabián, president of the Asociación de Hoteles y Moteles de Puebla A.C., thanked the state government for its support and highlighted the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors. “Working together, we can position Puebla as a competitive tourist destination, offering unique and quality experiences to all visitors,” he said.
The tourism strategy also contemplates the promotion of Puebla's rich culture and heritage. Initiatives are planned to highlight local traditions, gastronomy, architecture and festivities, offering tourists an authentic immersion in Puebla's identity. These actions seek not only to attract visitors, but also to foster pride and participation in the local community.
In line with sustainability and inclusion, rural and community-based tourism projects will be promoted to enable local communities to benefit directly from tourism activity. These initiatives will promote economic development in rural areas, preserve local traditions and offer tourists authentic and responsible experiences.
The incorporation of digital technologies is another key component of the strategy. The use of mobile applications, augmented reality and online platforms that facilitate travel planning, accessibility to information and interaction with tourist attractions will be promoted. The goal is to turn Puebla into an intelligent tourist destination that responds to current market trends.
With these actions, Puebla is on its way to consolidating itself as a benchmark for inclusive and sustainable tourism in Mexico. Collaboration between the government, the private sector and local communities will be fundamental to achieve the proposed goals and offer visitors high quality experiences that reflect the richness and diversity of the state.
