France, recognized as the world's most visited country with 100 million international tourists by 2023, has appointed Nathalie Delattre as its new Minister of Tourism.
Born in 1968, Delattre, 56, is a prominent political figure in France. She chairs the Radical Party and has held various public posts, including municipal councilor in Bordeaux and senator for Gironde. Most recently, between September and December 2024, she held the post of Minister for Relations with Parliament.
Upon assuming her new role, Delattre expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister François Bayrou and President Emmanuel Macron for the trust placed in her. She stressed the importance of the tourism sector to the French economy and pledged to continue the policies of her predecessor, Eric Lombard, focused on strengthening and promoting tourism in the country.
Among the main challenges Delattre will face are:
Environmental Sustainability: Addressing the growing environmental concerns associated with mass tourism and promoting sustainable practices within the industry.
Infrastructure Modernization: Upgrade and improve tourism facilities to maintain France's competitiveness as a leading global destination.
Managing Overtourism: Implementing strategies to balance the influx of visitors and preserve the quality of life of local communities, as well as cultural and natural heritage.
With his extensive political experience and leadership in the Radical Party, Delattre is expected to bring a renewed vision to the Ministry of Tourism. His appointment reflects the French government's commitment to strengthening and adapting the tourism sector to contemporary demands, ensuring that France maintains its privileged position on the international tourism scene.
