Peru has been awarded for its work in integrating accessibility into its tourism offer, with the creation of an accessibility guide that incorporates international methodologies and the TUR4all label. These actions have positioned the country as a leader in inclusive tourism in Latin America, demonstrating that it is possible to combine cultural and natural wealth with accessibility to guarantee satisfactory experiences for all visitors.
iUrban has been recognized for its contribution to accessibility through technology, developing a solution based on multilingual artificial intelligence that allows travelers to find experiences tailored to their specific needs. Its system is capable of recognizing more than 500 accessibility criteria, facilitating travel planning and improving the experience for users with different abilities. This tool represents a breakthrough in digital accessibility within the tourism sector.
Vías Verdes de la Fundación de los Ferrocarriles Españoles has been awarded for its work in the recovery and adaptation of railway heritage as an inclusive tourism resource. Its work has made rural and natural spaces, traditionally difficult to adapt, accessible to all, promoting inclusive tourism in natural environments and encouraging sustainable mobility.
In addition to the winners, the jury awarded special mentions in each category to recognize other outstanding projects in accessibility and inclusion. In the category of National Inclusive Destination, Visita Gijón and the City Council of Santa Eulària des Riu have been recognized with second and third place, respectively. In the category of Inclusive International Destination, Montevideo and Costa Rica have obtained mentions for their commitment to accessibility. In the category of Inclusive Company, Let's Meet Panama and Tromso Accesible were distinguished for their efforts to improve accessibility in their services. Finally, in the category of Inclusive Organization, the Costa Rican Network and REAJ were awarded for their work in promoting inclusion in tourism.
FITUR4all will hold its second edition on January 24 and 25, with national and international presentations on social sustainability, accessibility technology and the importance of the value chain in destinations, among other relevant topics. During the weekend, awareness days will be organized for travelers, with the aim of raising awareness of the need to make progress in accessibility and ensure that tourism is an experience for all.
This edition will also feature the presentation of the first “Guide to Best Practices in Accessibility in Tourism by FITUR4all,” a compilation of outstanding accessibility projects developed between 2023 and 2024. The purpose of this initiative is to give visibility to those actions that have had a positive impact on tourism accessibility and that can serve as a reference for other destinations and companies.
