First day of the
Alianza del Turismo Acessible at FITUR 2025
23-01-25
The Alianza del Turismo Acessible (ATACC) inaugurated its participation in FITUR 2025 with a day full of strategic actions and significant advances towards a more inclusive tourism. During this day, international leaders, government representatives and organizations reaffirmed their commitment to the Alliance, working together to build a more equitable future for the tourism industry.
Meeting with JJ Medina of PuntoDis
The day began with a key meeting between Stephanie Sheehy, CEO of ATACC, and JJ Medina, founder of PuntoDis, a leading accessibility platform. During the meeting, ATACC's mission and goals were presented, exploring opportunities for collaboration to strengthen the global impact of accessible tourism. Both agreed on the importance of innovation and technology as fundamental tools to eliminate barriers and ensure inclusive tourism experiences.
Presentation of the first National Coordinator's Certificate to Ecuador
One of the highlights of the day was the official presentation of the first Alianza del Turismo Acessible National Coordinator certificate to Ecuador. The ceremony, held in the main amphitheater of the Ecuadorian stand, brought together key figures such as the Undersecretary of Tourism, Santiago Granda; the President of Tourism Society Think Tank (TSTT), Antonio Santos; and the CEO of ATACC, Stephanie Sheehy.
During the event, the leadership of Liseth Ramirez, who assumes the responsibility of coordinating ATACC's efforts in Ecuador, was recognized. Sheehy urged the country's authorities, tourism sector and associations to work hand in hand to promote truly inclusive tourism. “Ecuador has enormous potential and, with Liseth's leadership as national coordinator, we are confident that it will become a reference in the region,” said Sheehy.
Meetings with Potential National Coordinators
During the day, the Alliance held meetings with representatives from Spain and Norway to explore the possibility of establishing national coordinators in these countries. These discussions reflect the growing interest of several nations to join the global movement for accessible tourism. The expansion of ATACC to new countries will contribute to the creation of common standards and best practices to ensure inclusive tourism experiences worldwide.
Participation in CAF and UN Event
The day concluded with ATACC's participation in an event organized by the Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and the United Nations (UN). Here, Stephanie Sheehy held discussions with prominent tourism leaders, including Guatemala's Minister of Tourism, Harris Whitbeck; Peru's Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Desilu León; and Uruguay's incoming Minister of Tourism, Pablo Menoni. These meetings opened the door to future negotiations for the possible incorporation of these countries into the Alianza del Turismo Acessible.
Next Steps
The ATACC team will continue with an intense agenda of meetings and events during FITUR 2025. In the coming days, key announcements are expected that will continue to consolidate the vision of accessible tourism for all.
