19-01-25

As part of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) 2025, to be held January 22-26 in Madrid, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) reaffirms its commitment to the development of sustainable tourism in the region. As part of its participation, CAF will present the event 'Cocoa Destinations,' which will take place on Thursday, January 23 at 12:00 noon at the CAF stand at FITUR, located in Pavilion 3, stand B13.

This special event will highlight cocoa as a driver of tourism and economic development for Latin America and the Caribbean, highlighting its importance in cultural identity, gastronomy and investment opportunities in sustainable projects. Attendees will be able to learn about the potential of cocoa in the tourism industry, exploring experiences that combine agrotourism, sustainability and the natural wealth of the region.

The event will be developed in collaboration with the World Cocoa and Derivatives Tourism Destinations Network, a program of the Tourism and Society Think Tank, led by Amora Carbajal. Leading industry experts will participate, including Oscar Rueda, CAF's Director of Tourism; Amora Carbajal, Director General of the Network; Yadira Gomez, Minister of Tourism of Honduras; Santiago Peralta, founder and CEO of the Paccari brand (Ecuador); and Manuel Sabogal, owner of Hacienda Combia (Colombia).'

CAF and its commitment to Sustainable Tourism

CAF's participation in FITUR 2025 responds to its strategy of promoting more sustainable and resilient tourism in Latin America and the Caribbean. During the fair, CAF will present its Sustainable Tourism Strategy, a framework for action that promotes investments in tourism projects with a positive impact on economic growth and environmental conservation.

Visitors to CAF's stand will have the opportunity to learn about the various lines of financing and technical assistance available to promote tourism development in the region. These tools will allow governments and entrepreneurs to access resources to facilitate the creation of innovative tourism products, aligned with the principles of sustainability and social responsibility.

Strategic Agreements and Key Collaborations

During FITUR 2025, CAF will also hold strategic meetings with representatives of member countries and other key players in the tourism sector. In this context, collaboration agreements will be signed with various institutions, including an alliance with UN Tourism for the preparation of tourism investment guides. These guides will seek to attract foreign direct investment in sustainable tourism projects, contributing to the recovery and strengthening of the sector after the challenges imposed by the pandemic.

Launching of the Latin America and the Caribbean Region Brand

Another of the key moments of CAF's participation at FITUR will be the presentation of the 'Latin America and the Caribbean Region Brand'. The purpose of this initiative is to position the region as a leading global tourist destination, promoting its cultural, natural and gastronomic diversity. The strategy seeks to attract international travelers and strengthen the region's image in strategic markets.
