Argentina steps up its presence at FITUR 2025 to revitalize tourism

22-01-25

Argentina is preparing for an outstanding participation in the 45th edition of the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR), to be held January 22-26, 2025 at IFEMA Madrid. The national delegation will be headed by the Secretary of Tourism, Sports and Environment, Daniel Scioli, who will lead a delegation made up of representatives from 13 provinces, six chambers of the tourism sector and 57 executives from Argentine companies.

Argentina's stand, with a surface area of almost 490 m², will serve as a platform to promote the country as a first-class international tourist destination. During the days dedicated to professionals, more than 40 co-exhibitors will present the diversity and richness of Argentina's tourism offerings. The weekend, intended for the general public, will feature an attractive agenda of cultural and promotional activities.

Participation in FITUR 2025 is taking place against a challenging economic backdrop for Argentina. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INDEC), between January and October 2024, the country received 9.12 million tourists, representing a decrease of 11.41% compared to the 10.91 million recorded in the same period of 2023. This decline has generated a deficit in the tourism balance of US$3.939 billion.

To reverse this trend, Minister Daniel Scioli presented in October a strategic plan for 2025, with a budget of US$4,385 million, 48% more than in 2024. This plan focuses on the promotion of new tourism products, with special emphasis on nature tourism, and on boosting meetings and congress tourism (MICE) through the “Argentina Te Incentiva” program, which seeks to deseasonalize the sector.

In line with these objectives, during FITUR 2025, Daniel Scioli will participate in the XXVIII Ibero-American Conference of Tourism Ministers and Entrepreneurs (CIMET), where the “Argentina” Chapter of the CIMET 2025 Guide will be presented. He will also hold meetings with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, and will sign a Letter of Intent between the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Sports, the UNWTO and CAF (Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean).

The opening ceremony of FITUR 2025 will be attended by the King of Spain, Felipe VI. Within this framework, Scioli will lead the ribbon cutting at Argentina's stand, where a documentary will be shown about the emblematic Ruta 40, one of the country's most outstanding tourist routes.

Argentina's participation in FITUR 2025 also seeks to strengthen international cooperation in tourism. In this regard, the signing of a cooperation agreement with the airline Iberia, aimed at improving air connectivity and promoting the flow of tourists between Europe and Argentina, stands out. Scioli will also hold meetings with representatives of the national private sector to coordinate strategies to boost the country's tourism promotion in the international market.

The presence at FITUR 2025 represents a strategic opportunity for Argentina in its goal of recovering and increasing international tourism, taking advantage of the platform offered by one of the most important trade fairs in the sector worldwide. With a renewed proposal and a firm commitment to innovation and sustainability, Argentina seeks to consolidate itself as an attractive and competitive destination on the global tourism scene.
