"Religious tourism is a driving force in many economies, but its development does not depend solely on the destinations themselves. It is a collective effort where tour operators, cultural managers, government entities and local communities converge. The new name of the World Religious Tourism Network responds to this reality, allowing all these actors to find their space on our platform," explained Pilar Valdés, director general of the World Network.
A sharper religious focus
Another key adjustment to the WGlobal Network's identity has been the elimination of the term “Spiritual.” Although the platform continues to focus on religious tourism, it has decided to limit its scope to the world's major religions. With this change, it seeks greater clarity in the mission and to avoid overextension that dilutes the focus. "Spirituality is a broad concept that encompasses many traditions and philosophical currents. We remain committed to religious tourism, but with a more defined framework that allows us to work more effectively with our communities and allies," said the head of the World Network.
More opportunities to become a founder: new deadline
Aware of the importance of strengthening the World Network's presence in Europe, it has been decided to extend the deadline for accessing founder status to June 30, 2025. This adjustment will allow countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, Hungary, Croatia and other countries in Asia and the Middle East to join under special conditions, benefiting from discounts and exclusive advantages previously available only to Latin America.
"We want to ensure that key players in religious tourism around the world can take advantage of this unique opportunity. The extension of the deadline until June is a sign of our commitment to the internationalization of the network and the inclusion of more countries in this global movement," the organization said.
Upcoming expansion in Europe
The growth of the World Network does not stop. In the coming weeks, the incorporation of several European countries is planned, which will further strengthen the platform's presence on the continent. This expansion process reinforces the importance of religious tourism in Europe and opens up new opportunities for cooperation between actors from different regions of the world.
With the new identity and a more inclusive approach, the World Network is positioned as the main reference for all those involved in religious tourism, offering a solid platform for knowledge sharing, strategic collaboration and the promotion of projects in a constantly evolving sector.
