The Mayor’s Office of Santa Marta has appointed Marcela Sierra Cuello as the acting District Secretary of Culture, through Decree 055 of February 18 of this year. Her appointment follows the resignation of Darío Linero Mejía, who had held the position since January 1 of the previous year and whose tenure has been widely recognized for his commitment to the city’s cultural development.

The district administration highlighted the work of Linero Mejía, who, during his term, promoted the recognition of cultural sector actors, strengthened artistic and heritage processes, and played a key role in planning the commemorative events for Santa Marta’s 500th anniversary. His efforts laid a strong foundation for implementing initiatives aimed at enhancing the city's historical and artistic identity.

In this context, the newly appointed acting Secretary of Culture, Marcela Sierra Cuello, has distinguished herself through her experience in the public sector and her current leadership as City Manager for the Fifth Centenary. Her designation ensures the continuity of the cultural projects that have been promoted in the city and the consolidation of new strategies to enhance access to culture in various sectors of Santa Marta.

The district administration reaffirms its commitment to the promotion of arts, culture, and heritage, essential elements for the city’s social and tourism development. Under Sierra Cuello’s temporary leadership, work will continue on the implementation of cultural initiatives that highlight Santa Marta’s historical richness and encourage community participation in the city’s artistic life.

Additionally, the Mayor’s Office expresses its gratitude to Darío Linero Mejía for his invaluable contributions and dedicated efforts to benefit the cultural sector. His legacy includes strengthening programs, events, and policies that have supported the artistic community and established Santa Marta as a reference point for heritage promotion and local identity.

With this new appointment, the city is set to continue advancing in the planning and execution of impactful cultural activities, further solidifying the role of the Secretary of Culture as a key institution for social transformation and cultural development in the district.
