Guanajuato City (Mexico) shines this Christmas
11-12-25
The arrival of the December holiday season will once again transform Guanajuato City into a setting full of light, tradition, and joy with the 2025 edition of the Christmas Festival “Magic in Guanajuato City,” which will take place from December 10 to January 6. For almost a month, the city will open its squares, alleyways, and historic venues to welcome families, domestic and international tourists, and the entire community looking to experience a Christmas infused with culture, gastronomy, spirituality, and the charm that distinguishes the heart of the Bajío region.
The festival will officially begin with the emotional lighting of the Christmas Tree, installed next to the emblematic Juárez Theater, one of the city’s most admired architectural icons. This moment will mark the start of a program that each year brings together artistic, religious, and culinary expressions, and reaffirms Guanajuato City’s commitment to promoting its traditions and its identity as a World Heritage City.
Throughout the season, the streets will be filled with music thanks to the traditional estudiantinas (student musical groups), who will perform Christmas carols in squares and alleyways, evoking the joyful and nostalgic atmosphere that is typical of this time of year. Likewise, pastorelas (traditional Nativity plays) will take over various historic stages to recall, with humor and mysticism, the spiritual roots of Christmas and the collaborative spirit that unites communities during these celebrations. Gastronomy will also play a leading role, with themed dinners where the traditional flavors of the region will be combined with dishes typical of the Christmas season, offering visitors memorable experiences around the table.
