The World Religious Tourism Network (WRTN), a flagship program of the Tourism and Society Think Tank, has signed a collaboration agreement with the technology company Camino Aplicación S.L. to implement a digital system for certifying pilgrimages and visits to religious destinations. This alliance will provide WRTN member destinations with an innovative and accessible tool that will enhance both their offerings and the spiritual experience of their visitors.
The digital ecosystem developed by Camino Aplicación has been designed to accommodate multiple faiths and pilgrimage models, allowing each destination to issue personalized digital credentials and certificates that are internationally valid, with no initial or maintenance costs. The solution, already endorsed by institutions such as SEGITTUR, represents a major step toward modernizing religious tourism without compromising its spiritual and cultural essence.
Thanks to this agreement, pilgrimage destinations within the WRTN will be able to integrate this system at no financial cost and also participate in the revenue generated by the issuance of digital credentials, receiving a percentage of the income. This model serves not only as a certification tool but also as a means of economic sustainability and international promotion.
According to Pilar Valdés Arroyo, General Director of the World Religious Tourism Network, “This agreement marks a turning point in the way religious destinations can connect with 21st-century pilgrims. We are incorporating purposeful technology that values the effort, faith, and spirituality of those who walk, while strengthening the bond with sacred places. Thanks to this partnership, we are moving toward a more accessible, sustainable, and global model of religious tourism.”
