South Africa: Digital visa drives 25,000 tourists in six months

Over the past six months, South Africa has attracted more than 25,000 tourists thanks to its innovative digital visa program—an initiative that not only modernizes immigration procedures but also boosts economic growth and job creation. Launched in February 2025 as part of the Trusted Tour Operator Scheme (TTOS), this digital system has transformed visa processing for travelers coming mainly from India and China.

The program’s success is evident: accredited tour operators can now submit visa applications online and receive a digital response in just 24 hours, in stark contrast to the previous manual and bureaucratic process, which required in-person visits, printed forms, and wait times that often stretched for weeks. This streamlining has been key to attracting more visitors and positioning South Africa as an appealing and accessible destination.
