Puerto Rico promotes inclusive tourism with accessible beaches, routes, and hotels

Puerto Rico is making steady progress toward becoming an inclusive tourism destination, offering welcoming and adapted experiences for visitors with functional diversity. With a global market of 1.3 billion people with disabilities, the accessible tourism segment represents a growing opportunity: in 2022 alone, it generated $58 billion worldwide.
The Caribbean island has strengthened its commitment through five key factors: safety, health and mobility, efficient transportation, minimal physical barriers, and personalized experiences. Thanks to these efforts, Puerto Rico now boasts infrastructure and services designed to support travelers with special needs.
Among the most notable projects is Mar Sin Barreras at Luquillo Beach, which provides wheelchair access, amphibious chairs, floatation devices, and specialized assistance—all free of charge. With the support of Puerto Rico Access Tours, inclusive excursions have also been designed, such as visits to the bioluminescent bay of Laguna Grande, which welcomes wheelchair users.
