Inaugurated the Cacao and Chocolate Museum in Mexico City
17-08-25
On August 15, 2025, the heart of Mexico City’s Historic Center came to life with the opening of the Cacao and Chocolate Museum, now part of the prestigious international Choco-Story network, present in countries such as Belgium, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, and Mexico, with locations in Uxmal, Valladolid, and Playa del Carmen.
Housed in a restored colonial building on República de Guatemala 24—just behind the Metropolitan Cathedral and facing the Templo Mayor—this museum emerges as a bridge between the ancestral and the contemporary. During restoration works, carried out in collaboration with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), an unexpected discovery was made: remains of the Huei Tzompantli of Tenochtitlan, an archaeological vestige of singular relevance that underscores the museum’s commitment to preserving historical heritage.
The museum’s proposal goes far beyond a conventional visit, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a multisensory experience that blends history, archaeology, and gastronomy. The thematic halls narrate the journey of cacao, from its sacred role in pre-Hispanic civilizations to its transformation into a delight enjoyed on a global scale. The tour is enhanced with interactive games, immersive projections, historical objects such as vessels and metates, and audio guides available in five languages—all carefully designed to keep the experience vibrant and continuously enriched with contributions from the international Choco-Story network.
