The Historic Transfer of Saint Helena’s Relics to Romania: A Journey of Faith and Devotion

30-04-25

Between April 30 and May 8, 2025, Romania will experience a spiritual event of great significance: the reliquary containing the complete relics of Saint Helena, mother of Emperor Constantine the Great and discoverer of the Holy Cross, will arrive in the country on a historic pilgrimage that promises to strengthen the faith of thousands of believers.

The pilgrimage will begin on April 30 in Venice, Italy, where the reliquary will depart from the Church of "Sant'Elena," which houses these precious relics. From there, it will travel to Romania, where it will be welcomed with a series of solemn ceremonies.

On the same day, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., the relics of Saint Helena will be displayed for veneration by the faithful at the historic Patriarchal Cathedral of Bucharest. This cathedral, whose patron saints are none other than Emperors Constantine and Helena, will be the first meeting point for Romanian devotees with the saint.

The official reception will be presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel, Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church, in a ceremony marked by solemnity and deep spiritual emotion.
