Saudi Arabia is fast establishing itself as a global sports tourism epicentre, offering a unique combination of elite events and unforgettable experiences for sports and adventure enthusiasts. The year 2025 has witnessed a series of events that highlight the Kingdom's commitment to world-class sport and entertainment.

The year began with the prestigious Dakar Rally, which once again took in the diverse and challenging Saudi landscapes, from vast deserts to rugged mountains. This iconic off-road competition, which has found its home in Saudi Arabia since 2020, put the world's best drivers to the test, reaffirming the country as a key destination for motorsport and adventure enthusiasts.

In April, the excitement continued with the Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, held at the Jeddah Street Circuit. Known for its stunning Red Sea setting and high-speed track, the race offered fans a unique experience, complemented by side events and exclusive opportunities to interact with the drivers.

Golf has also emerged as a centrepiece of the Saudi sporting offering. The annual PFI Saudi International tournament in December marked the opening of the Shura Link golf course, part of the Red Sea Global portfolio. This innovative course sets new standards in luxury golf, attracting elite players and amateurs alike.

In addition, the LIV Golf Tour announced its schedule for the 2025 season, which includes 14 tournaments in nine countries and four continents. The season kicked off in February at Riyadh Golf Club, with a spectacular night-time event that illuminated the course with more than 1,000 points of light, offering an unprecedented experience for players and spectators.

Saudi football has also gained international recognition, with an increasingly competitive league attracting superstars from around the world. High-profile events, such as the Spanish Super Cup, have been held in cities such as Riyadh and Jeddah, giving fans the opportunity to witness world-class matches in state-of-the-art stadiums. In addition, Saudi Arabia is preparing to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, underlining its commitment to the beautiful game.

For adventure sports enthusiasts, Saudi Arabia offers a variety of activities in stunning natural settings. From hiking at the iconic Edge of the World to scuba diving in the vibrant coral reefs of the Red Sea, cycling in the unique landscapes of Al-Ula and paragliding in the Asir Mountains, the kingdom presents itself as a paradise for thrill seekers in unparalleled settings.

Saudi Arabia's commitment to sports tourism is part of the ambitious Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and position the country as a leading tourist destination. Flagship projects such as Al-Qiddiya, an entertainment and sports mega-city on the outskirts of Riyadh, are under development to provide world-class facilities and attract visitors from around the globe.

In addition, the recent partnership between LaLiga and Saudi Arabia, announced by Turki Al-Sheikh, president of Almeria, strengthens the country's position in the international sporting arena. This three-year agreement makes Riyadh an official sponsor of one of the world's most prestigious football leagues, seeking to boost the kingdom's image as a global entertainment destination and promote high-level sporting events.

With significant investment in sporting infrastructure and a packed calendar of world-class events, Saudi Arabia is establishing itself as a must-visit destination for sports-loving travellers. Whether it's the speed of motor racing, the passion of football, the elegance of golf or the adrenaline of adventure sports, the kingdom offers unique experiences that combine luxury, culture and excitement in one place.
