UN Tourism - World Tourism Organization Secretary General candidate and global tourism expert, Gloria Guevara, has published an article entitled ‘Sustainability and Innovation: Zambia's Growth in Tourism’, available on the Tourism and Society Think Tank portal. In this analysis, Guevara examines the remarkable growth of the tourism sector in Zambia, highlighting how sustainability and innovation have been key pillars in this development.
The article highlights the 35.3% increase in international arrivals to Zambia by 2024, reaching over 2.19 million visitors. Guevara attributes this growth to proactive government policies, significant investments in tourism infrastructure and a determined focus on sustainable practices. He also highlights projects such as the World Bank-funded Green, Resilient and Transformative Tourism Development, which seeks to balance economic growth with environmental conservation.
