Egypt has cemented its position as Africa's tourism leader by 2025, reaching historic figures in visitor arrivals and positioning Cairo International Airport as the continent's leading aviation hub.
In 2024, Egypt welcomed a record 15.7 million tourists, surpassing the previous year's 14.9 million. This growth is attributed to improvements in security and government support for the tourism sector. By 2025, the number of visitors is expected to reach 17 million, with Germany, Russia and Saudi Arabia as the main source markets.
Cairo International Airport has set a new record by handling 102,108 passengers on a single day, 5 April 2025, with 682 flights operated. This milestone reflects the airport's growing capacity to meet travel demand and its operational efficiency as Egypt's main gateway.
The airport authorities have implemented an ambitious strategy to position Cairo as a long-haul aviation hub, connecting continents and reinforcing Egypt's role in the global travel landscape. During the recent Eid Al-Fitr holiday, the airport handled more than 312,000 passengers on 2,433 flights, demonstrating its ability to operate smoothly even during periods of high demand.
