China Shopping: A symbol of openness and economic dynamism

30-04-25

In a global context marked by trade tensions and protectionist trends, China has consolidated a strategy that boosts its economy while projecting an image of openness: the rise of "China Shopping." This trend, which complements the growing interest in tourism within the country, has been reinforced by government policies aimed at facilitating purchases by foreign visitors. It reflects an economy in transformation and a strong commitment to global integration.

Recently, six government departments, including the Ministry of Commerce, implemented new measures to optimize the tax refund policy for international tourists. The minimum purchase threshold to qualify for tax refunds has been reduced from 500 yuan to 200 yuan (approximately $27.80), while the maximum cash refund limit was doubled from 10,000 yuan to 20,000 yuan. These initiatives aim to stimulate domestic consumption and attract more foreign visitors.
