China and ASEAN strengthen media and strategic cooperation

At the China-ASEAN 2025 Media and Think Tank Forum held recently in Nanning, Guangxi Province, representatives of media, think tanks and government entities from China and ASEAN member countries met under the theme ‘Strengthening China-ASEAN Cooperation’. The meeting was aimed at consolidating strategic ties and promoting a joint narrative that reflects shared achievements and challenges in the region.

During the forum, the importance of collaboration between media and think tanks in building a community of shared future was highlighted. Participants agreed that, in a global context marked by rapid change and common challenges, it is essential to strengthen communication and mutual understanding. The need to tell success stories that demonstrate the benefits of bilateral and regional cooperation, countering negative narratives and promoting a balanced view of developments was underlined.

The event also served as a platform to discuss strategies to strengthen media cooperation, foster information exchange and promote more accurate and objective coverage of regional issues. The creation of joint mechanisms to facilitate the training of journalists, the exchange of content and the realisation of collaborative projects that reflect the diversity and cultural richness of the region was proposed.

In addition, the importance of think tanks in the formulation of public policies and in the generation of knowledge to support strategic decisions was addressed. The need to establish research and analysis networks to share experiences, identify good practices and develop innovative proposals to address common challenges was emphasised.

The forum concluded with a call to strengthen existing cooperation mechanisms and to explore new forms of collaboration that respond to the changing needs of the region. It was agreed to work together to promote initiatives that foster regional integration, sustainable development and the building of a more cohesive and resilient community.
