22-09-24
The family of Arlindo Gomes Furtado, Cape Verde's first cardinal, has decided to pay tribute to his legacy with the creation of a foundation and a museum, projects that will see the light of day on the occasion of his 75th birthday on October 4, 2024. Cardinal Furtado, known for his deep dedication to the values of the Church and his pastoral work, will receive this recognition in his place of origin, Figueira das Naus, a small town that will house both the headquarters of the foundation and the museum.
The Cardinal Arlindo Furtado Foundation has as its main objective the promotion of the Christian values that the Cardinal defended throughout his life. It will focus on education, charity and community development, areas that reflect his commitment to the social and spiritual betterment of his country. The foundation will also serve to preserve his legacy, ensuring that future generations will continue to benefit from his example and teachings.
This project not only celebrates his work in the Church, but also seeks to foster social cohesion and solidarity in Cape Verde. Through educational and cultural activities, the foundation aims to be an engine of positive change in the community, carrying out initiatives that promote social justice and sustainable development.
