During her inaugural speech, President Boluarte highlighted the importance of this event in the context of the country's economic reactivation, strongly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. She pointed out that the Peru Travel Mart 2024 represents a unique opportunity to reposition Peru on the global tourism scene, fostering strategic alliances between local and international entrepreneurs. ‘Tourism is a fundamental pillar for economic growth, job creation and foreign exchange generation,’ she said.

Boluarte emphasised his government's commitment to improving tourism infrastructure and ensuring security in the country's most visited destinations, such as Cusco, Machu Picchu, Arequipa and the Amazon. In addition, he underlined the focus on promoting new tourist routes, which include sustainable experiences that respect the environment and local communities. ‘We want tourists to live an authentic experience, connected with our culture, our history and, above all, with our people,’ he added.

One of the central themes of the event is tourism sustainability, a topic that has gained prominence on the global agenda of the sector. During the fair, various seminars and conferences on responsible practices that contribute to the preservation of Peru's natural and cultural heritage will be presented. In this regard, Boluarte mentioned his government's commitment to the development of policies that favour sustainable tourism, which benefits local communities without compromising natural resources.

The Peru Travel Mart is also a platform to strengthen partnerships with emerging markets. Business delegations from countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America are expected to participate, who are interested in exploring the opportunities offered by Peru, not only in the field of traditional tourism, but also in niches such as adventure, nature and wellness tourism. This year, the event attracted a record number of attendees, exceeding initial expectations and demonstrating the international market's great interest in the country's potential as a tourist destination.

The event not only focuses on the country's natural and cultural attractions, but also places a strong emphasis on innovation and technology as tools to enhance the tourism experience. The president highlighted the efforts her government is making to digitise the sector, facilitating access to tourism information and services through technological platforms. ‘Digitalisation is key for tourists to be able to plan and enjoy their trip safely and efficiently,’ said Boluarte.

During the Peru Travel Mart 2024, technological innovations in the tourism sector will be presented, including augmented reality applications to improve the experience at archaeological and natural sites, as well as digital solutions for the management of tourist destinations. These initiatives are part of the government's strategic plan to position Peru as a smart tourism destination.

Projections for the tourism sector in 2024

According to the projections presented by the president and representatives of the sector, Peru expects to receive more than 5 million international tourists in 2024, a figure that reflects the gradual recovery of the sector after the pandemic. Boluarte stressed that, in order to achieve this goal, it is necessary to continue working on the international promotion of the country, particularly in key markets such as the United States, China and Europe.

He also stressed the importance of public-private collaboration in developing innovative tourism products and improving infrastructure. ‘The success of tourism in Peru does not depend only on the government, but on the active participation of all actors in the sector,’ he said. In this sense, the Peru Travel Mart 2024 is presented as an ideal platform to establish contacts and close business deals that will benefit the country's tourism regions.

Peru Travel Mart 2024 is not only representing a window to showcase the natural and cultural riches of the country, but also a space to consolidate tourism as a key driver of the national economy. With the participation of entrepreneurs, tour operators and international buyers, the event is set to generate positive impacts in the short and medium term, boosting the recovery of the sector and positioning Peru as a diverse and attractive destination in the global market.

Dina Boluarte closed her speech by expressing her optimism for the future of tourism in Peru, inviting all participants to continue working together for an inclusive and sustainable tourism development.
