Tourism in Miami-Dade has experienced remarkable growth and consolidation, as highlighted at the recent annual meeting of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB), held Oct. 29 at the Hilton Miami Downtown. During the event, which was attended by more than 700 members, elected leaders and community representatives, the stability and resilience of Greater Miami and Miami Beach as premier tourism destinations was highlighted.

In FY 2023-2024, visitors contributed more than $20.6 billion to the local economy, representing a nearly 3% increase in revenue over the previous period. This growth reflects the region's continued attraction of domestic and international tourists.

The GMCVB's sales and convention services team exceeded its objectives, achieving bookings representing more than 103% of its initial goal. This translated into more than 406,000 room nights booked, reaching 111% of the target. The attraction of 16 future major conventions and trade shows at the Miami Beach Convention Center is an indicator of the region's attractiveness for large-scale events.

Through August 2024, Miami International Airport welcomed 10.6 million international visitors, an increase of 9.6% compared to 2023. For its part, PortMiami is expected to exceed 7.3 million cruise passengers, consolidating its position as a key port in the global cruise industry.

David Whitaker, president and CEO of the GMCVB, emphasized the importance of taking advantage of every opportunity to raise the destination's profile. The organization has intensified the promotion of Greater Miami as a convention destination, reflected in the attraction of important future events. In addition, travel from the top 10 international markets has increased by a combined 13%, evidencing an effective tourism attraction strategy.

The GMCVB welcomed 250 new members, bringing the total membership to 1,111 in the tourism bureau. In addition, eight new members were appointed to the organization's board of directors, including prominent industry leaders and government representatives, strengthening the governance and strategic direction of the organization.

Julissa Kepner, GMCVB board chair and general manager of the Miami Biscayne Bay Marriott, highlighted the organization's strategic vision as she discussed how trends in sustainability, technology and key infrastructure investments drive tourism growth. Collaborating with partners and adapting to emerging trends are critical to maintaining and enhancing Miami-Dade's attractiveness as a world-class tourism destination.
