Women lead luxury travel: preferences and trends in high-end travel

Women lead the luxury travel segment, with an average spend of 8,000 euros per trip. Their priorities focus on gastronomy (73%), nature and outdoor activities (52%), art and culture (47%), health and wellness (45%), and spa treatments (37%).
Luxury tourism among women is on the rise, especially among those between 55 and 75 years old with annual incomes over 95,000 euros, representing 60% of high-end travelers. These travelers spend around 8,000 euros per trip.
The “Luxury Vacation Habits 2024” study reveals a significant increase in luxury tourism in the wake of the pandemic, with women leading this trend. Their preferences when planning trips include gastronomy, nature, art, culture and wellness.
Women prefer to travel mainly with their partners (75%), followed by travel with friends (30%), children (26%), and 22% who choose to travel alone.
Spain leads as the preferred destination worldwide for this type of travel, surpassing countries such as France, Italy, Greece and the United States, according to the international tourism study “Luxury Holiday Habits 2024”.
Social networks play a crucial role in travel planning, with younger and less affluent women using them the most as a source of inspiration. Facebook (60%), Instagram (55%), TikTok (26%), YouTube (23%), LinkedIn (19%), X (formerly Twitter, 18%), and Pinterest (15%) are the most popular platforms.
Women use social media to discover unique places, get inspired by the experiences of others, and find special offers that motivate their booking decisions and help them organize their trips in the best possible way.
