The heavy rains that are lashing the Dominican Republic these days have caused flooding in several places, including some of the prestigious hotels in Punta Cana, such as the Meliá Punta Cana Beach. The situation, generated by a trough or atmospheric depression, has led to the activation of alerts in 25 provinces of the country due to the risk of flooding of rivers, streams and creeks, as well as urban flooding and landslides, according to the National Meteorological Office (Onamet).

The yellow alert, which currently affects 16 provinces, includes some of the most touristic ones such as La Altagracia, Puerto Plata and Samaná. Meanwhile, nine other provinces, including Santo Domingo and La Romana, remain on green alert, reports Diario Libre.

Images of flooding at hotels such as the Meliá Punta Cana Beach highlight the magnitude of the impact of these torrential rains, not only in terms of infrastructure, but also on the experience of tourists visiting the region. It is crucial that authorities and emergency services are vigilant in providing assistance and mitigating the effects of this weather phenomenon, especially in vulnerable areas such as coastal zones where the tourism industry is concentrated.
