IATA and airlines against irregular migration
12-05-24
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and a group of eleven airlines with operations in the Americas have joined forces in a joint effort to address the challenge of irregular migration in the region. In a joint statement, they expressed their commitment to work closely with governments and other relevant organizations to combat this problem.
In addition to expressing their willingness to exchange information and develop technical assistance initiatives, these airlines have underscored their commitment to complying with all applicable migration regulations. However, they have stressed that their ability to act is limited by existing laws, although they are willing to implement measures to help reduce the risks associated with irregular migration.
One of the main requests of these airlines and IATA is that governments in the region implement public policies and migration requirements that discourage irregular migration. This underscores the importance of close collaboration between the private sector and government agencies to effectively address this challenge.
Signatory airlines include prominent names such as Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeroméxico, Avianca, Bahamas Air, Caribbean Airlines, Copa Airlines, GOL, LATAM, Sky, Viva Aerobus and Volaris. This joint commitment reflects the airline industry's willingness to take an active role in promoting effective solutions to address irregular migration in the Americas.
